Census Data: South, Central Jersey Show Most Growth

Garden State residents jump 377, 544; Hispanic population is the largest minority group.

Snooki, the Situation and the rest of their housemates may or may not be the draw, but just-released data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that the Garden State is growing Down the Shore. And that move could trigger a power shift among longtime political leaders as redistricting begins. According to the 2010 counts, Ocean County, where population grew by 65,651, is the state's fastest-growing county. Among other findings in the report, which was released Thursday afternoon, the state's Hispanic population claimed the top spot among minority residents. Galloway Township Sees Slight Growth in Latest Census Data

The population has jumped by 771 people.

Galloway Township saw a slight increase in population over the last 10 years, jumping from 36,578 to 37,349, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau Thursday night. Overall, Atlantic County saw an increase from 252,552 in 2000 to 274,549 in 2010, an increase of 21,997 people. Of the 37,349 people living in Galloway, 26,860 are white, and of that number, 22,006 are over the age of 18. Both are by far the highest number in terms of race or culture, with African Americans a distant second at 4,271, 3,001 of which are 18 or older. American Indians made up the smallest portion of the population, with 99 recorded in 2010, 70 of which are 18 or older.
