Galloway Man Among 16 Charged in Massive Mail Fraud Conspiracy

A Galloway Township man was among 16 people charged for their alleged roles in a massive mail fraud scheme, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced on Tuesday, April 17. Eric Reilly, 33, was among seven people charged with conspiracy in a $2.4 million mail fraud scheme involving time share mortgages, according to Fishman. Nine additional people were arrested in Southern New Jersey on Tuesday. Reilly is one of seven who will have initial court appearances in other states, including Florida, Virginia, South Carolina, and the Virgin Islands before returning to New Jersey to face charges from the complaints unsealed Tuesday, Fishman said. Career Bank Robber Sentenced Following Robbery in Absecon

Marcus Newton most recently robbed a TD Bank, but has a history of robberies in New Jersey, Michigan and Georgia.

A 48-year-old Atlantic City man was sentenced to 10 years in prison following a December 2009 robbery of TD Bank in Absecon, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced Tuesday afternoon, March 6. He was sentenced in Camden Federal Court. Marcus Newton has a history of robbing banks in New Jersey, Michigan and Georgia, Fishman said. Newton previously plead guilty to an Information charging him with bank robbery, Fishman said. Newton was also sentenced to two concurrent terms of three years each of supervised release, and ordered to pay $3,156 in restitution to the bank. According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court, the robbery took place Dec. 19, 2009. On that day, Newton is said to have walked into TD Bank and handed…

Galloway's Nicky Scarfo Jr. Among 13 Charged for Racketeering

Scarfo was arrested Tuesday morning at his home in Galloway Township. His wife surrendered to authorities in Camden.

Nicodemo Scarfo Jr. was among 13 arrested arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 1, for racketeering, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday afternoon. Scarfo was arrested Tuesday morning at his home in Galloway Township, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman and Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer said. He faces 25 counts, each carrying with it anywhere between a five-year and 30-year maximum jail sentence. They were also accused of other offenses, including the illegal takeover of a publicly traded company. The charges originate from the alleged extortionate takeover of FirstPlus Financial Group, a publicly held company in Texas, and the subsequent looting of the company by members of the racketeering enterprise through a series of …
