Miss America is heading back to Atlantic City. Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno welcomed the pageant back to its birthplace after spending six years in Las Vegas on Thursday morning, Feb. 14. “For decades, the Miss America organization has awarded scholarships to thousands of young women to help further their goals of higher education and achieve their dreams,” Guadagno said. “New Jersey is proud to once again host the Miss America Pageant here in Atlantic City. Lindsey Petrosh competed in Miss America last weekend.
An Egg Harbor City girl who grew up with the same dreams as a million other girls her age had the unique opportunity of putting the exclamation point on her career by living out that dream. Lindsey Petrosh competed in the Miss America pageant on Saturday night, Jan. 12, and although she didn’t win, she had plenty to take away from the experience. “It was a once in a lifetime experience that trumps everything I’ve ever done,” Petrosh said this week. “I grew up with the Miss America pageant in my backyard. Amanda Ross was crowned Miss New Jersey's Outstanding Teen earlier this year.
Seventeen-year-old Smithville resident Amanda Ross has competed in pageants since she was in eighth grade, but none have been as important as her next. On August 18, she will compete with 53 other teens from every state in America, Puerto Rico, Washington D.C. and the Virgin Islands to be crowned Miss America's Outstanding Teen. "All the girls going into this competition are all pretty much outstanding since they are all representing their states," Ross said. Lindsey Petrosh was crowned on Saturday night.
After three days of Miss New Jersey events in Ocean City, Lindsey Petrosh of Egg Harbor City was crowned Miss New Jersey on Saturday night at the Music Pier in Ocean City. By winning, Petrosh not only will have the chance to compete at the Miss America Pageant, but also secured a $10,000 scholarship, among many other awards. Petrosh is a graduate of Rowan University. During the interview portion of the pageant, she had the chance to show a bit of her personality when she was asked whether it is better to be liked or respected.
