Should NJ Lower Flags for Whitney Houston?
New Jersey will honor the dead pop star with flags at half-staff. Is she deserving of that honor?
Whitney Houston’s loved ones will say goodbye to the late superstar today, and New Jersey will have its own visible memorial to the Newark native as all flags will fly at half-staff on government buildings. Gov. Chris Christie ordered the move earlier this week. Christie called Houston was a "cultural icon" who belongs in the same category in New Jersey music history as legendary singers such as Frank Sinatra, Count Basie and rocker Bruce Springsteen. The governor called Houston's accomplishments in the music industry "a great source of pride for the people of the state." That's a great story. That's the only entertainer I can imagine having been afforded he honor, but I didn't get to check. Now, would you fly the flag at half staff for guys like Jimmy Stewart or Clarke Gable? Guys who flew B-17 missions over occupied Europe? If they flew it for that draft-dodging John Wayne I'm going to puke.   more ›
