Absegami Defense Tough for Three Quarters, But Braves Falls to Atlantic City in High School Football Playoffs

The Vikings erased a three touchdown deficit to advance.

The Absegami High School football team battled Atlantic City in near freezing temperatures Friday night, Nov. 16 in a game that saw strong defense by both teams in the first half. In the second half, an explosion of offense helped Atlantic City erase a three touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter. Fourth-seeded Atlantic City defeated No. 5 Absegami, 34-30, in an NJSIAA South Jersey Group V quarterfinal playoff matchup. The Vikings (7-2) will visit No. 1 Williamstown, a 41-6 winner over No. 8 Millville, in two weeks in the semifinals. On Friday night, after falling at home to Atlantic City last week, the Braves held a 30-13 lead with seven minutes left in the game. Five Absegami Wrestlers Advance in Regions

During the quarterfinal round on Friday night, five Absegami wrestlers won.

Five Absegami wrestlers made it to the Region 8 tournament in Egg Harbor Township and on Friday night, those five wrestlers all won their matches, advancing into Saturday's action. All are looking for regional titles and to make it into the state tournament. According to the Press of Atlantic City, 126-pound Mike Jiampetti won a major decision, 132-pound John Willette beat his opponent, 152-pound Nate Ross won a close match, 170-pound no. 1 seed Alex Gong handily defeated his opponent and 285-pound Mike Ottavanio also won on Friday night. The tournament continues throughout this weekend.
