Terry Dougherty has been named Atlantic County Teacher of the Year.
The best teacher in Atlantic County comes from Galloway Township. Roland Rogers Elementary School Third Grade Teacher Terry Dougherty has been named Atlantic County Teacher of the Year, Galloway Township Superintendent of Schools Dr. Annette Giaquinto announced on Tuesday, April 9. Dougherty has been employed in the school district for 15 years. Her title as top educator in the county comes on the heels of her recognitions as Roland Rogers and Galloway School District teacher of the year. About 60 teachers from all over the state will participate in regional discussions over the next five months.
When the New Jersey Teacher Advisory Panel PILOT program commences on Monday, March 4 at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, Galloway Township will have a presence beyond just the location. Roland Rogers Elementary School Third Grade Teacher Terry Dougherty will be among 20 teachers from the southern region of the state participating. She will be one of two teachers from Atlantic County in the group, with the other hailing from Egg Harbor Township. Although the Christmas Concert at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Absecon on Dec. 16 is free, any donations collected that night will benefit the tutoring program of a Galloway Township teacher. Roland Rogers Elementary School third-grade teacher Terry Dougherty, who won the Great American Teach-Off, a $10,000 grant, and a tour of the White House last year, will collect donations from the Christmas Concert at the church at 603 New Jersey Avenue in Absecon for her Free Children Military Tutoring Program, Dougherty said Saturday night, Dec. 1. With a representative from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) on hand at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting at the middle school, district representatives signed a Patriotic Statement of Support to those who serve in the military. “We appreciate everything you’re doing,” Donna Clementoni, director of employment outreach for the New Jersey Committee of ESGR, told the Board of Education Monday night, Feb. 13. The Roland Rogers teacher won the VFW K-5 NJ Teacher of the Year award.
The awards keep coming for Roland Rogers Elementarty School third-grade teacher Terry Dougherty. The Galloway Township school teacher, who won the inaugural Great American Teach-Off as a result of her work with school-age children who continuously relocate because they have parents serving in the military, has been named the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) K-5 New Jersey Teacher of the Year. She was honored at the VFW Citizenship Education Teacher Awards Luncheon in Manville over the weekend. She was representing Atlantic County District 16, Post 220. Roland Rogers Elementary School Third Grade Teacher Terry Dougherty toured the White House last week as part of her prize for winning the Great American Teach-Off. "We had a great time. One of the First Lady's aides toured us through," Dougherty said via email on Thursday, Dec. 29. "This time of the year, you're actually allowed to take pictures inside the White House so I have a lot for the children to see. Throughout the tour I was sending pictures to my colleagues who in turn were showing them to my class. I wanted everyone to be a part of it." Roland Rogers Elementary School third-grade teacher Terry Dougherty has never been one to brag about herself or what she does, but the month of October has seen her participate in various interviews with newspapers, TV stations and websites, including Galloway Patch. She's been asked a lot of questions about participating in GOOD's Great American Teach Off, and on Monday afternoon, Oct. 31, it was revealed she now has a 50/50 shot at winning a $10,000 grant.
