UPDATED: Jim McElwee to be Sworn Into Council Tonight

According to Township Clerk TC Kay, results have been certified.

According to Galloway Township Clerk TC Kay, the Atlantic County Board of Elections has certified the results from the Nov. 6 election, and Jim McElwee will be sworn in as the newest member of Galloway Council. He will be sworn in prior to the council meeting tonight, Nov. 27, 6:30 p.m., at the municipal complex. McElwee defeated John Mooney by an unofficial vote count of 6,964-6,265 in the Nov. 6 election, but the certification of results was delayed due to disruptions in the voting process, caused by Superstorm Sandy. According to Kay, on Tuesday afternoon, she received a call from the Board of Elections stating that results had been certified. The township had not yet received official numbers Tuesday afternoon. Jim McElwee Will Be Sworn In Once Votes Are Certified

The new Galloway Councilman is able to assume the seat immediately following the special election.

New Galloway Councilman Jim McElwee will be sworn in once the results of Tuesday night's special election are certified by the Atlantic County Board of Elections, Galloway Mayor Don Purdy confirmed Wednesday morning, Nov. 7. McElwee defeated John Mooney by a preliminary vote of 6,964-6,265. Provisional ballots were still to be counted Wednesday morning. Board of Elections officials hoped to have the results certified by Friday, but said there may be a delay because of provisions enacted by Gov. Chris Christie following last week's storm. Menendez Overtakes Kyrillos to Retain Senate Seat

Republicans have conceded the senatorial seat to incumbent Robert Menendez.

As the ballots pour in from Sandy-ravaged New Jersey, Robert Menendez has emerged victorious in reclaiming his U.S. Senate seat against Republican challenger Joe Kyrillos. With just over half of polling districts reporting, state Republicans have conceded victory to Menendez. The U.S. senator leads 58 percent to 40 percent as of 10:30 p.m., according to CBS News.
