Attorneys representing the township and former solicitor Michael Blee now have 20 days to respond.
Each defendant in Lisa Tilton’s lawsuit against Galloway Township now knows specifically what he or she is being charged with. In response to a request to clarify the 86-page lawsuit, Tilton’s attorney, Steven Srenaski, filed a “More Definite Statement of the Complaint,” on Wednesday, Oct. 17. He had 20 days from the time he was asked to clarify the complaint on Sept. 28 to do so. Attorneys Daniel Baylson and Michael Barker, representing the various defendants in the case, now have 20 days from Oct. 17 to file their responses. Former Galloway Township Manager Steve Bonanni will not be represented by the same attorney who is representing the township in the lawsuit filed by former Township Clerk Lisa Tilton, Township Solicitor Michael Fitzgerald confirmed via email Friday afternoon, Oct. 5. Bonanni will instead be represented by Mike Madden of Madden and Madden Law Firm in Haddonfield, Fitzgerald said. According to Fitzgerald, the Atlantic County Municipal Joint Insurance Fund (JIF), which insures the township, determined that "a separate attorney is appropriate," for Bonanni in this case. The attorney for the former township clerk who filed a lawsuit against Galloway Township and former Solicitor Michael Blee has 20 days to clarify which charges apply to the township and which charges apply specifically to Blee and his law firm in the “wherefore” clauses of the complaint, Judge J. Christopher Gibson ruled in a pretrial motion conducted at the Cape May County Courthouse Friday morning, Sept. 28. Once the clarification is made, Blee’s attorney Daniel Baylson and Attorney Michael Barker, representing the township and the individuals named, have each said they would respond within 20 days, although Barker left open the possibility that he may take a little longer to do so. Former Galloway Township Clerk Lisa Tilton has sued the township and other individuals in Atlantic County Superior Court, claiming sexual harassment and other charges. Tilton is seeking reinstatement to her position as a result of an alleged breach of settlement agreement. She also iis seeking damages, attorney's fees, costs of suit and "other relief as the Court deems just and proper." Galloway Township has received 539 information requests since Oct. 4 of this year, compared with 242 received by the township all of last year, representatives of township council said during a meeting with members of the media at the municipal complex on Thursday morning, Dec. 22. According to Mayor Don Purdy, that’s four times the number of requests Hamilton Township has received this year. The number of requests is tracked since Oct. 4, which was Kimberly Hodsdon's first day as township clerk. Purdy, Deputy Mayor Tony Coppola, Councilman Brian Tyrrell and Hodsdon were present at the meeting with representatives from Galloway Patch, The Current and The Press of Atlantic City. Former Galloway Clerk Lisa Tilton filed a new tort claim — a legal warning that she intends to pursue a civil lawsuit — on Friday against the township and Councilman Dennis Kleiner. The notice stems from alleged incidents in late October between Tilton and Kleiner, after she had already resigned as clerk. Kleiner filed a police summons on Oct. 25 against Tilton on a charge of harassment, claiming Tilton followed him into a local restaurant, shouted threats to sue him and then tried to intimidate him by circling the police department's parking lot, which is directly across the street from The Dubliner restaurant. Outgoing Clerk Lisa Tilton intends to sue Galloway Township, based on various counts of invasion of privacy, slander, libel and violation of a separation agreement she reached with the township on July 18, among other claims, according to a tort notice obtained by Galloway Patch on Friday, Sept. 9. Tilton will seek $3 million in damages, for past and future lost wages, emotional distress, mental anguish, damaged personal and business reputation, as well as attorney’s fees and costs, according to the notice. One month and one week after she was suspended, Galloway Township Council unanimously approved a resolution accepting Township Clerk Lisa Tilton's resignation late Monday night after the two sides were able to reach a deal.
